Meet Santiago

Welcome to Argo and thank you for visiting my page!

Argo is about a journey, so let me share about my own journey and how I got here.

It was 2004 when I decided to leave Peru, my home country, and move to the United States to get an MBA to advance my marketing career. In July of the following year I moved from cold and humid Lima, Peru, to hot and sunny Austin, Texas.

I entered the world of marketing through the doors of psychology. I first studied economics in college and became interested in how and why people made decisions. I was frustrated learning about it using graphs and equations, so it felt like an epiphany when I saw that the psychology department offered a class called Consumer Behavior. That was exactly what I was looking for!

After graduating as a psychologist, I started working in marketing research. One of the most important things I learned is that marketing is first and foremost about understanding and meeting the needs of the people we want to serve, whether we talk about business customers or psychotherapy clients.

After completing my MBA I moved to Chicago to join McKinsey & Company, the leading global management consulting firm. As a Consumer Insights Expert, I studied consumers in a wide range of businesses, from horse feed and sports shoes to financial services and news media. Most of my work focused on helping companies understand their consumers, design products or services that met their consumers’ needs and preferences, and build brands that resonated with those needs while being unique and relevant. You can read about some of my projects here.

In 2012 I decided to make another big change in my life. I wanted to redirect my energy and my time toward a different type of impact, from helping corporations improve their revenues, to helping individuals live a more fulfilled and authentic life. Thanks to a number personal changes and with the support from important people in my life, I became willing to reinvent myself, go back to grad school for a second masters degree, and become a psychotherapist.

As I started my clinical journey and met more colleagues in the field, I realized that the skills I brought from my previous career would be useful to anyone working in private practice. I am excited to work with therapists in the journey to grow their practices, because that will allow them to reach more people who can benefit from their compassion, understanding, love and acceptance. You can read about my work as a therapist on my therapy website (www.santiagodelboy.com).

Thank you for your interest in getting to know me. I look forward to getting to know you too!
